Raised on a dairy farm in Linden, Nova Scotia, Elizabeth Smith-McCrossin knows well the definition of hard work. That strong work ethic and a desire to help others led her to Dalhousie University, where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She later attended Saint Mary’s University, completing an Executive MBA. Elizabeth worked as a registered nurse in various healthcare settings and later owned East Coast Holistic Health Ltd., based in Amherst, NS.
Elizabeth has served as MLA for Cumberland North in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly since 2017. She was first elected as a PC; however, in 2021, after the party ousted her for standing up for the citizens of Cumberland North, she decided to stay and sit as an Independent. She was re-elected as an Independent later that same year. Elizabeth is committed to building a stronger Cumberland County and is passionate about influencing public policy to improve healthcare, grow the economy, and improve government services. She proudly gives a strong voice to the concerns and issues of her constituents and never shies away from asking the tough questions.
Some of Elizabeth’s pastimes include music especially singing, playing guitar, gardening and reading. A devoted Christian, she believes that family is the foundation of a strong community. Elizabeth has been happily married to Dr. Murray McCrossin since 1991, and together, they have four children: Thomas, Matthew, Joel, and Sharon. They are now proud grandparents.
